A Worshipful Brunch

Updated: Jan 30

Last Sunday, we hosted 115 people for brunch in the hall at All Saint's in Taradale. The gathering was to mark the end of January and our period of gathering in the hall for services as All Saints is painted and other bits of renovation are completed.

With a menu of eggs, ham, hash browns, baked beans, toast and as many coffees and teas as you felt like, it was a wonderful gathering. During the breakfast, the band led us in serval songs of worship while Alan reflected on the idea that while worship should define the church, the church should not be defined by the way it worships. This is because the heart of the church is the community developed by our mutual recognition of call as brothers and sisters and as children of God - a shared calling that then sees us express our gifts and talents for the kingdom of God, within the context of a local church. Our brunch was a wonderful example, with Alan noting that whether you call is 'worshipful brunch' or a 'brunch worship' we are still giving thanks to God and acknowledging our shared calling as we gather. Following this, we took time to pray for the church, the world and the people that God had placed on our hearts that day.

The brunch gathering marked the end of our time in the hall, with the painting of All Saints' likely to be completed by the end of this week (31 January) and our communities will be able to regather for 8am and 10am worship from Sunday, 2 February.
