Alan appointed as Archdeacon

Bishop Andrew has announced the appointment of our Vicar, Alan Burnett, as the Archdeacon of Hawkes Bay Cities and Hawkes Bay Coasts. The announcement follows from the appointment of the parish of Taradale as a 'Resourcing Parish' within the Diocese of Waiapu, lifting the horizon of our prayer and mission to the region as a point of support and resource for other parishes and missions to build up the church.

The role begins for Alan in April. The additional demands on Alan's time will be supported by the continued work of the amazing staff team and the arrival of Diego Gomes as the Southern Regional Children and Families Pastor. This role will have a regional focus, but is partly supported by the Parish of Taradale to encourage and oversee ministries within our community as well.

There are not yet any dates for a formal collation of Alan in the role, but if this were to happen we will make sure that the parish is made aware. To encourage the parish, who may be concerned about the additional load on Alan's already full calendar, the commitment that the diocese is aware of this and that the exercise of this particular ministry will be offered as much as possible from within the work already underway in the parish, rather than being a significant additional load.

Please pray for Alan as he takes on these responsibilities and for the two archdeaconries he will now have responsibility within. Our prayer is for the growing of an ever more collegial and team-based approach to the ministry of the Anglican Church in this region to help reconnect and build up our churches and the wider communities they serve.
