Napier Parishes Consultation

At the Diocesan Synod in 2024 the following motion was passed, beginning a canonical process of consultation and reporting to explore possibilities for ministry partnership in Napier.

“That Synod approve the instigation of the amalgamation of the parishes of Taradale, the Cathedral and Westshore, plus the sub districts of Puketapu and Napier South in order to facilitate mission and ministry within the boundaries of the amalgamated parish: i.e., Napier, Taradale and Westshore.”

In line with that motion, the Standing Committee of the Diocese has sent a letter to our parish vestry and a document for distribution to the parish community, both of which are linked below.

These documents outline the process of consultation that will be undertaken as part of this review, the reporting windows and also outline some possible structures that could be implemented if the will and desire were present. These are only broad visions, and Synod has the power to adjust them significantly in response to community input if there is a desire for partnership.

The initial consultation for Taradale will be held on Saturday, 22 February from 2pm in the Parish Hall. It is envisioned this will take approximately 1.5 hours, though time will be allowed for what may come. The gathering will be facilitated by Graeme Brock and Colleen Kaye, with Alan Burnett also present to help set the scene and explain the possibilities and process.

We encourage you to read the document below and to book out the date to be in attendance. If you cannot attend, you are welcome to submit written submissions to either Alan (click here to email) or to Colleen Kaye (click here to email Colleen). The submission window closes on Friday, 8 March at end of business.
